THE GIRL AND THE SOIL

Unpleasant feelings on evening walks bring us back to the primitive feeling of fear. In the most anxious moment, we can experience what our ancestors experienced and, in a way, we understand how or why the characters of local mythology could have arisen. The internal dialogue that takes place during ordinary walks can get us to the heart of the matter and help reveal what is hidden in our subconscious.
The main storyline of the exhibition by Ester Hotová and Miny Hess is based on pop cultural phenomena, such as female rage and personal mythology, connected with traditional folklore themes. Two dominant segments of the exhibition are the theme of death and the rebirth of life from it. Despite the profane esotericism, the authors also try to find an adequate place for their own spirituality through artistic collaboration.

The exhibition will be on view from 20. 4. 2026 in the space of the former café in the library on Kobližná during the library’s opening hours.
The performance and opening of the exhibition will take place on Thursday 23. 4. 2026  after the opening of The Undertakers of the Forest.

HEIRS OF TODAY: BRNO ART WEEK 2026 AT THE JIŘÍ MAHEN LIBRARY

This year’s exhibition, interventions and performative entries into the space of the Jiří Mahen Library as part of Brno Art Week are connected by a joint curatorial concept by Olga Čejková called Heirs of Today. We proceed from the assumption that the present moment is defined by what happened in the past and at the same time fundamentally establishes the state of things in the future.
